Knights of Columbus
Local #12256
Christ the King Church
In 1998, representatives from the State Council approached Father Mallett
with the idea of forming a new council at Christ the King Church. The church
was in the midst of constructing a new parish center. Father Mallett believed
the formation of a council would contribute significantly to the expansion
of community activities that would accompany the expansion of parish facilities.
In the spring of 1998, an installation ceremony was conducted and the Knights
of Columbus Council, local #12256, of Christ the King Church, was formed.
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic menís organization that serves the
family, church and community. Most of our councilís service projects support
Christ the King church and school, but we also strive to reach the local
community.
Our community service projects include blood drives for the American Red
Cross, house repairs for the House of Mercy, supporting the Room In the
Inn program, pancake breakfast fundraisers, Booty Drive benefiting Caring
Choices and our annual Tootsie Roll Drive that benefits children with mental
disorders. For our church, we have refurbished the playground equipment,
hosted an Ash Wednesday spaghetti supper, Halloween party, ice cream social,
Ladies Appreciation night, annual Christmas tree sale, Breakfast with Santa
and Monday Night Football gatherings in the parish hall. We offered a free
throw contest and Columbus Day poster contest for the students at the Christ
the King School. Our family events include family picnics, bowling nights,
hockey game outings and golf excursions.
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practical Catholic men
in union with the Holy See. A practical Catholic is one who lives up to
the Commandments of God and the Precepts of the Church. The member shall
not be less than 18 years of age.
Membership offers the opportunity for fellowship with those who are of the
same belief, who recognize the same duty to God, to family and to neighbor
and who stand side by side in defense of those beliefs. Various programs
are offered to appeal to the individual interest of the members. Through
many activities, members are enabled to serve their Church, their country
and their fellow man. Through membership, they develop a consciousness of
their ability to lead and to assist.
Applications are available from any member of the Knights of Columbus. Every
knight is happy to propose eligible Catholic men for consideration as members.
