I am very pleased to be teaching second grade at Christ the King School.  Second grade is a year to explore and develop new skills and knowledge in the context of learning about our community.  This year's religion curriculum is very important for the students as part of our faith community.  In addtion to preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion, students learn about the beliefs that bind our community together and how we live, pray and worship together.  The skills we acquire in language arts help us learn about our community through reading, and communicate well with others while listening, speaking and writing.  Our math curriculum gives us the basic skills that help us function in our community.  Second grade has a big emphasis on measurement of time, money, temperature, length, and capacity.  The addition and subtraction skills and concepts of multiplication and division that are learned in second grade are ones we all use in our daily lives.  Second grade social studies explores communities of today and of the past, and how we work and govern ourselves.  Our science curriculum rounds out the idea of community by offering an opportunity to explore the world right outside our classroom, including how we interact with plants, animals, the earth, space and physical realities.  Respecting and caring for God's creation is an important aspect of our studies this year.

My philosophy is that all children can learn and the best pace or style differs for each child.  My goal for the school year is to help each of my students grow, learn and feel loved.  I believe that my classroom should be a warm, creative and safe environment that allows that to happen.  It is my hope that every child in my class will respect others and feel respected by others.  I commit to helping the students grow as a loving community by implementing a positive classroom management plan.  I believe that good communication and a team approach between teacher and parents leads to school success for students.

Personal Mission Statement

I am the voice and hands of God in my 2nd grade classroom, charged with gently guiding my children as they learn, play, grow, and pray so that each may achieve their personal best.  I commit my gifts of compassion, enthusiasm, knowledge, and organization to leadership in service to my school community.
