4th Grade Newsletter

November 14, 2008

We are almost halfway through the 2nd nine weeks! I can’t believe how fast this year is going! Before you know we will be out for Christmas vacation! Here are some tips and current activities we have planned before we live for Christmas vacation.

Current Events
The students have done a wonderful job finding current events and I hope they have more knowledge of what happens in their environment. I am changing the way that the students turn in the current events. Instead of doing a weekly current event, I am going to only have them turn it in once a month. They will still need to attach the article to the current event organizer. The next current event will be due December 9, 2008 and I will post more due dates on the website when we return in January.

The Tennessee Notebook

You have received the instructions for The Tennessee Notebook in your child’s Friday Folder. They have been researching their possible choices for a famous Tennessean for about 2 weeks. They will be assigned their famous Tennessean on Monday, November 17th. I know they are looking forward to doing this part of the project. A couple of questions have come up regarding this part of the project and I want to clarify some misunderstandings. First, the famous Tennessean should be born in Tennessee or at least be famous enough to be considered from Tennessee. For example, Elvis Presley was born in Mississippi but since his home is in Memphis, the students are allowed to list him as one of their choices because of his connection to Tennessee. Second, the students will only be doing an oral presentation on the famous Tennessean, as a written report will not be required for this part of the project. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me. The TN notebook is due December 11, 2008.

Book Report

You have also received the instructions for the Character ID book report, which is due December 18, 2008. Students may choose their own book and it can be a book they are already reading or they may select a new book. This should be a fun project for them to complete. I am looking forward to seeing very creative ID cards.

Responsibility

The 2nd nine weeks is very short since we have a lot of time off from school due to Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. As the busiest time of year kicks off, I need your help in keeping the students focused on their schoolwork and giving 110% every day. Progress reports will go home on November 25, 2008 and the 2nd nine weeks end on December 19, 2008, which gives us little time to get everything accomplished. However, I am confident by working together we can keep the students focused and striving for his/her best effort every day.

Math

Keep working hard on those multiplication facts. All of your hard work is paying off. The students are completing math assignments in a very reasonable amount of time in class and I know it is due to you reviewing the multiplication facts. Keep up the awesome work!

As always, if you have any questions, please email me. I really enjoying being with your children everyday and watching them grow intellectually, socially, and spiritually. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of their lives.
