January 30th through February 3rd

Dear Parents and Students,

We are looking forward to a week of special events in celebration of Catholic Schools Week! To check for special schedules and events, please read the yellow flyer that was sent out last week. It is hard to believe that January is almost over and February is creeping in, along with some beautiful days of sunshine. I am amazed at how much the students have grown, not only in physical maturity, but also in emotional maturity. They are blossoming every day, especially in their academic prowess! They blew the top out of their history test last Friday! Congratulations to them all.

Academic Calendar:

Vocabulary: Review units 10 through 12. We will be working in our workbook this week and  the review is due this Wednesday through page 146, as usual. This week we will not have a spelling test over the review unit. We will have the cum review and unit 10-12  test next Thursday.

English: We will review prepositions and adverbs, and will do some diagramming of simple subjects and simple predicates.

Literature: Students will be working in groups and creating a poster of the Greek Pantheon. They will receive a test grade on it and a list of expectations will be put on the board to guide them, but the majority of the grade will come from creativity and working cooperatively in their group. I hope to decorate our hall with them!

History: We will be skipping around in the next chapter on Greece: the building of the Parthenon, and famous Greek philosophers and important personalities.

Math: We will review our unit on geometry and we will have a test Tuesday over terms.  Students made flash cards last Friday as a study aid. We will also be working on some review worksheets.

Fifth Grade Social Studies: We will concentrate on the Pilgrims and the English Colonies.

Eighth Grade Literature: A Break with Charity, chapters 6-10 review. Students will be participating in special review activities and can look forward to a special  surprise speaker on Monday. The following week we will resume with chapter 11-16.

Be well.

Sincerely,
Lina Wellborn
