Student Rights and Responsibilitiesin the Enrichment Classroom |
|
You, the student, have the right and responsibility to: 1. Establish your own learning goals and objectives during Enrichment activities. You are also strongly encouraged to make suggestions about classroom activities and course content. 2. Make up any Enrichment class work or at-home assignments you miss during an absence, regardless of the reason for the absence. Due dates are subject to flexibility, depending on the length of absence. 3. Actively participate in the Enrichment learning environment. 4. Talk openly about topics presented during Enrichment instruction. Classroom discussions will focus on the subject you are learning, not on you personally. Sometimes you will talk about personal things in class, such as your feelings or attitudes. You will not be required to reveal anything about your family, relationships, problems, or anything else about your personal life. 5. Give your opinions during Enrichment class discussions without fear of ridicule or intolerance from others. The Enrichment instructor will allow different viewpoints to be heard, as well as encourage tolerance of different viewpoints and respect for each person’s right to his/her opinion. 6. Decide on the written content of any Enrichment projects, papers, and assignments, as long as the contents meet specific guidelines. The material or production may be disapproved if the content or activity— a. is in violation of law or Christ the King policies and/or regulations; b. poses a potential threat to the health and/or safety of students; c. advocates drug, alcohol, and tobacco use; violence; illegal discrimination; or illegal activities; d. contains language that is obscene; and/or e. causes the disruption of classroom and/or school activities. These guidelines will not be used to prevent responsible discussion of issues. 7. Treat all students, teachers, and school staff fairly and with respect. 8. To create a safe, healthy learning environment in the Enrichment classroom that promotes mutual respect. |
