August 12, 2010 7th/8th Grade Parents, Welcome back to school. Hope all of you had a wonderful summer. I will send home more information later in the school year. We will continue to build on the music theory we have learned. We will learn new songs to sing at church. Students will be given the opportunity to volunteer to be cantors during school masses. We will study one musical during the year. This year’s musical will be The Sound of Music. We will learn to sing some music from this musical. We will also be studying 20th Century classical music and composers beginning with the Baroque Period. The students will have to choose one composer and write a report on that composer. I will send home more information later in the school year. Grading again will be E,G, S, N, U. One of the biggest items that will affect your child’s grade will be their willingness to participate during class and at performances. The students will be tested on the musical study, classical music study and the written report. I am only at the school on Wednesday and Thursday of every week. Seventh and eighth graders have music on both days. Grades 5 –8 chorus will perform Grandparents’ Day, will participate in the Christmas Pageant and a Spring Concert. I will send home information later in the year concerning these performances. This information will also be posted on my webpage. I want to continue to instill in these students a love for music that will stay with them throughout their lives. If you ever have any questions, please contact me at betty.marina@ctk.org and I will get right back to you. I am looking forward to a great school year. Sincerely, Betty Marina return to Music home |
