2011-2012

Dear Parent,

It is a privilege to provide you a glimpse into the community and spirit of Christ the King School. Our school will celebrate its 75th year in 2012 as a parish school located in the heart of Green Hills. Founded in 1937, we are a Roman Catholic coeducational institution forming students beginning in Pre-K through the eighth grade. Our focus is to educate children through maintaining high academic standards, forming their character in a Christian community and inspiring them to love and serve others. We welcome all those who seek community, knowledge and service, no matter your faith tradition.

Christ the King School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the Diocese of Nashville and Tennessee State Department of Education. Our students are challenged in a strong academic and faith-filled community. We have faculty who focus on specialized areas such as Math, Reading, Science, Art and Spanish as well as learning specialists for Talented and Gifted and Remediation. Further, our faculty members are life-long learners with over fifty-two percent holding advanced degrees.

Standardized scores reveal that students perform well above the national and diocesan averages.  ITBS scores in 2010 verify that our school ranks in the top 7% of schools nationwide. Our alumni report they learned life skills that prepared them for secondary education and beyond.  Graduating students are prepared to excel in public magnet schools as well as private high schools such as St. Cecilia, Father Ryan, Pope John Paul II, Montgomery Bell Academy, Ensworth and Baylor in Chattanooga. To become well-rounded learners, students participate in co-curricular activities such as: football, cross country, basketball, soccer, volleyball, golf, forensics, chess, National Junior Honor Society, Catholic Math League, and Student Council. Many students participate in art, theater, piano, guitar and music enrichment as well as scouting and service clubs in after school programs.

Focused on family, Christ the King School understands that parents need support as the primary educators of their children. Our after school program, through St. Mary Villa, provides a safe and structured space for children to learn even when school is not in session. We offer at least two conferences a year and Open House where parents learn about their students’ educational experience.  In addition, the Home and School Association brings families together through activities such as Pastries with Parents, Grandparents Day, and Faith & Family Nights. Last year, families gathered for a Living Rosary and participated in Stations of the Cross for Children followed by a Knights of Columbus Fish Fry during Lent.

Our educational experience also emphasizes the importance of relationships across generations. Our dedicated faculty models how to integrate knowledge and character in all areas, not just the formal classroom. All students participate in service projects and learn how their actions, big or small, impact others. Our buddy system, with older students mentoring younger students, teaches the gifts of generosity and responsibility. Our parents volunteer to serve the school in many different ways, and we encourage family members to visit during special activities, worship services and lunch periods.

We encourage you to look through our materials and our website. We also welcome you to schedule a personal tour with the principal or admissions director, and then a shadow day visit for your child. Our students and faculty will bear witness to a community where learning, laughter and love abide.

As you seek the place that “fits” your student, we appreciate your time in exploring Christ the King School. I look forward to meeting you and having you find out why parents have chosen Christ the King School as the learning community for their children.  It is often said “There is something special about this place.” I encourage you to come and find out why.

Please give me a call at 292-9465 for a personal tour to meet our dedicated staff and our inspirational children.

Peace,

Principal
