Dear Christ the King School Families,

Whew!! What a wonderful whirlwind of a week—Field Day, Talent Show, Academic Banquet, Graduation, End of Year Awards, Physicals. We had a great time with the kids. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered on receptions, Field Days, Used Uniform and Book Day, Physicals, Talent Show, Room Parents. I regret that we were late for dismissal on Wednesday. We started the Talent Show late due to a special presentation and there were so many great acts that we could skip any of the kids’ performances—you would have been so proud of our children. Thank you for ALL you have done for CKS but most of all, thank you for the gift of your children.

On Tuesday we held our annual Spelling Bee for our students to compete in Metro’s bee in February 2011. It was great to see our younger students rise to the challenge and our older students model courage and witness to their schoolmates how important it is to try even if success is not guaranteed. We are proud of all participants but want to offer a big hurray to Matthew Canonico, our winner and Michael Canonico, our runner up. Way to go guys!

On Wednesday, one of our alums, Mr. Jim Carell, presented a check for $1 million to our students for the gym. Our children raised over $766.00 for the building campaign as well. We are off to a great start and we are awaiting approval to begin the building process. We also want to thank all the volunteers, doctors and nurses who offered physicals for the Athletic Association—they helped earn $655.00 for the Jack Long Scholarship.

On Thursday, we celebrated the families who reached a family goal of $200 earned through RAIDER REWARDS also known as Scrip. The kids enjoyed a movie of Shrek 3. This is a wonderful program as families raising more than the $200 will have their family account credited with the additional funds at registration in August. We want to remind families that you are required to earn $200 for the upcoming school year by using Raider Rewards proceeds. Those not wanting to participate can forfeit their pre-registration deposit. However, we encourage Raider Rewards as you can use monies that you would normally spend on gas, groceries, clothes, to name a few. During the summer, you can place a Scrip order every Monday by 9 a.m. Holiday orders (i.e. July 4) will be made on Tuesdays. You can bring in your payment or pick up your cards on Thursdays during Office Hours. A huge thank you to Sallie Brackman and her committee—their coordination has helped families raise over $23,000 for the school.

REPORT CARDS will be mailed out next week by the Business Office. If you do not receive your report card by the second week of June please contact Dawnne Stephens at 292-2884. Included in the report card envelope will be your children’s 2009-2010 ITBS scores and any monies earned from the Used Uniform & Book Sale. If you do not receive any monies from the sale it means your items did not sell. We will keep items over the summer and try to re-sell them in the fall. There were many books or uniforms sent home today with students because they were not in good condition, were no longer uniform items or did not have envelopes. Please look over the procedures for selling books and feel free to resubmit appropriate items on Registration Day to sell.

IF you want NEW BOOKS you needed to sign up at the Used Book Sale or submit a written request by 3 p.m. June 4, 2010. You can contact Margie Grover at margie.grover@ctk.org or fax in a request at 292-2477. Mrs. Grover cannot take orders over the phone.

Summer Math and Reading packets went home last week. If you need an extra copy, please see our lists on our website under “Academics.” They will be posted some time next week.

In order make our school the best that it can be, we need the gift of your feedback.  Next week we will be sending a parent survey via an email blast. These surveys will be anonymous and confidential as they are submitted online. After the deadline of June 18, we will compile the data in order to set goals and make improvements.

Next year we will have one change in our faculty. Jennifer Wagner will be leaving our 4th grade position to teach in Williamson County. This switch in jobs will allow Mrs. Wagner to be on the same schedule as her children. Please keep her in your prayers. Our new 4th grade teacher will be Ms. Kimberley Goerdt. Kim has her BA in Elementary Education K-6 with a certification in reading. She taught in a homeroom at a Catholic School in IA before moving to Nashville. We are excited to welcome Ms. Goerdt to our CKS community.

I hope that you enjoy the summer with your children. Regular office hours will be posted starting next week after the holiday. We will send a notice of the hours via our email blast and display them on the front door. Please note that teachers do not answer email or voicemail during the summer. Office email and voicemail are answered during mid-week hours. If you need to speak to one of the staff specifically, we encourage you to call ahead to check their schedule. You should contact us at 292-9465 or margie.grover@ctk.org.

Summer fun and blessings
