My Objectives and ExpectationsThis course strives to meet the Foreign Language goals set forth by the Diocese of Nashville. Students will strive to master the fundamentals of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, some reading, and reading comprehension, as well as communication exercises. By the end of the course students should also gain a wider knowledge of Spanish cultures as they learn about the Spanish - speaking world and its diverse cultures. Course Requirements Since listening and speaking are skills that require regular practice, attendance and active participation in class are essential. It is crucial that students look at and study the assignments and learn the vocabulary before coming to class. Students are expected to be on time with class assignments. Attendance If a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to inquire about missed work. It is also the student’s responsibility to make up any missed work. Participation Speaking skills are important and tell the teacher how well a student is progressing in a language. Student participation is essential. Class work/effort In order to do well in Spanish students need to put forth the effort to practice speaking and pronouncing the words and phrases taught in the Spanish Class. Homework Homework is important in the subjects that meet only once/twice a week; it is an essential exercise for the student. Homework will be graded unless otherwise specified... As the Spanish teacher, I want the parents to know that homework is given each week, the homeroom teachers are notified, and homework is also listed on my web page. Homework grades are as follows for: ● Grading starts at 100% for homework that is completed and handed in at the beginning of class due date - Points will be taken off for minor errors and illegibility - ● Grading starts at 80% if work is turned in late on the same day - Points will be taken off for minor errors and legibility - ● A grade of 0% will be given for homework that is not turned on the due date. ● Students with excused absences must make arrangement with the Spanish to make up homework.
