ASH WEDNESDAY ASHES: Please return palms received last Palm Sunday to church so that they can be burned for use at this year's Ash Wednesday liturgies. There is a collection basket in the rear of the church. Thank you.
HAITI RELIEF: We at Christ the King are doing everything possible to help in providing relief for Haiti. For the next two weekends parishioners will have an opportunity to contribute to Haiti relief through a collection taken up at the end of each Mass. Our Haiti Support Group will assist in this effort. These funds will be directed toward the best possible avenue of relief support -- either through our own Twin Parishes, through the general Parish Twinning Program, through Catholic Relief Services, or another effective avenue of support. As everyone knows, the devastation in Haiti is tremendous, and we ask that you reach deep to help those in such great need.

HEALTH CARE BILL: The U.S. Catholic Bishops are calling on Catholic voters to take action to prevent the proposed health care reforms from advancing a pro-choice agenda. Bishops are calling on legislators to keep longstanding restrictions against federal funding of abortion and full conscience protection in the legislation. If these criteria are not met, Catholics are asked to urge Congress to oppose the final bill. Please use the following links to take action:

SAFE
ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM All
parishes and institutions of the Diocese of Nashville participate in
the diocesan Safe Environment program, as mandated by the Charter for
the Protection of Children and Young People promulgated by the U.S.
Conference of Catholic Bishops. Our parish and school join the diocesan
effort in creating and maintaining a safe environment for all children
and young people in our care. Measures include a detailed code of
conduct for ministers, employees, and volunteers, and clear policies on
responding to allegations of abuse or misconduct. All employees and
volunteers who have regular or ongoing contact with children and youth
are required to complete training on signs of abuse and on the required
actions to be taken when such signs are observed. This includes how
to comply with legal requirements for reporting suspected abuse to the
appropriate civil authorities. The diocese also employs a curriculum
for use with children and youth that provides age-appropriate
treatments of safety and personal well-being, fully in line with
Catholic
teaching. Please visit the diocesan Safe Environment webpage for a
comprehensive listing of policies and resources, or contact the parish
Safe Environment coordinator, Don Boehm, for further information.

CHANGES IN TAX LAWS: On January 1, 2007 a new provision regarding cash contributions went into effect. The law states that individuals who want a tax deduction for cash contributions they make to tax-exempt organizations must prove their donation. Therefore, the organization that received the donation must provide a receipt for all cash donations regardless of the amount. Taxpayers who previously claimed a charitable deduction for estimated cash offerings to churches throughout the year will no longer be able to deduct their estimates. In order to provide you with a receipt at the end of the year, cash contributions must be made in an identifiable form. If you wish a receipt at the end of the year for your cash donations, please use the envelope system or put cash in an envelope with your name and address.
THE PARISH FINANCE BOARD has approved a change in the amount which qualifies a family for participating member status. Beginning in 2008, this status is based on a minimum of $950 in annual offertory contributions. The $950 amount is not an absolute requirement; we ask that people give regularly in proportion to income to qualify. Participating member status is used to determine eligibility for reduced tuition rates at Christ the King School and Diocesan high schools, as well as for use of parish facilities. For more information, please visit: Membership Page - Christ the King Website
