    • Our goal is to provide enough listening sessions for every member of this community to share their experience. In order to pull this off, we need help facilitating these sessions.

The facilitator's role is to welcome, to provide instructions, to keep time, and to collect the notes. Easy peasy. Our goal is to have two facilitators at each listening session to share these responsibilities.

Please use the following SignUpGenius link to select some listening sessions that you can facilitate. Once you've signed up, we'll reach out to you directly to confirm and check in, as well as to share the facilitator materials.

    • listening session overview

We're trying to make this as simple as possible. Below is a description of an in-person listening session in between the Sunday Masses. We'll use the same flow for the Saturday/Sunday evening listening sessions. The Zoom sessions will adapt the process for breakout rooms but will otherwise remain the same.

      9:30-9:45

The facilitator welcomes the participants and asks them to sit at tables in groups of 4-6. She invites them to fill out nametags and to make sure they each have a paper with the questions.

      9:45

The facilitator briefly describes the purpose of the sessions (this will be scripted) and gives the few simple instructions:

      • Choose a notetaker at your table -- someone with legible handwriting who can bullet point people's responses.

      • When we begin, start with the first question. Everyone can take a turn to introduce themselves and share their responses, if they have one. Once everyone has shared, pick another question. Try to make your way through all the questions. It doesn’t have to be in order.

      • Notetakers, you don’t need to capture every word. Try to capture general ideas. You’ll have time at the end to summarize these notes with those at your table and capture anything that’s missing.

      9:50

The facilitator offers the synodal prayer asking the Holy Spirit to bless the process (this will be scripted), and then she asks the groups to begin sharing. As they share, the facilitator circulates around the room in case there are questions. At 10 minute intervals, she lets the groups know how much time they have left. The facilitator can remind everyone to make sure everyone gets heard, if this seems necessary.

      10:25

The facilitator asks the notetakers to briefly summarize their notes for their group. Is anything important missing? Anything final to add?

      10:30

The facilitator then thanks everyone for coming and offers a description of the next phase of the synodal process (this will be scripted). She asks the notetakers to leave their notes at the table. (Zoom version: email the notes to listen@ctk-nashville.org.) To conclude, she invites everyone to stand and pray the Lord's Prayer.

    • our synodal questions

      Participation:

Do you find it easy to get involved in the life of the church? What about other people? If yes, how so? If not, why not?

      Communion:

Do Christ the King’s Sunday liturgies and other sacramental/liturgical celebrations help you feel connected to God? Do they help you feel part of a spiritual family? If yes, how so? If not, why not? What would help?

How is Christ the King reaching those who might be at the periphery of the community (i.e. marginalized, disabled, disadvantaged, and neglected)? How does the parish provide a space that is inclusive to those of different cultures, racial identities, socio-economic statuses, or sexual/gender identities? How can we build community?

      Mission:

Do you feel encouraged and equipped to share your faith with people with other faith backgrounds and listen to their stories?

Do you think Christ the King engages with social justice issues facing the wider community?
